    Zanjan is a City & Province NW Iran.Zanjan is the capital of Zanjan Province in northwestern Iran. It is an Azeri inhabited city. It is located 298 km north-west of Tehran on the main highway to Tabriz and Turkey and approximately 125 km south of the Caspian Sea. Zanjan is known for its beautiful handcrafts such as sharp knives, traditional sandals, called charoogh, and malileh. Malileh is a handcraft made with silver wires. Carpet weaving is one of most popular handcraft in Zanjan.Hamdollah Mostofi, the Iranian traveler and historian, in his book claims that Zanjan was built by Ardeshir 1st of Sassanid Empire and named it Shahin. One important moment in the history of the city was in 1851 when the city became the center of Bahais along with Neyriz and other cities. The forces of the central government captured the Bahai fort in Zanjan after a long siege by the order of Grand Vizier Amirkabir and executed some of Bab followers.Soltaniyeh Mosque is the major tourist attraction in Zanjan.
