    Faramarz Payvar (February 10, 1933, Tehran – December 9, 2009, Tehran) was an Iranian composer and santour player. Payvar died on December 9, 2009 after a long struggle with brain damage. His father, Ali Payvar was a painter and French instructor at the Tehran University, while his grandfather Mosavvaroddoleh was a painter of the Qajar era who also played santour, violin and setar.He took music lessons at the age of 17 with Ostad Abolhasan Saba and became one of the greatest Santour masters in Iranian music history.
