Iran Recognizes Croatia

(Wikipedia) - Croatia and Iran established diplomatic relations on April 18, 1992 when Iran became the 7th country to recognize the newly-independent Croatia.
Croatia has an embassy in Tehran and Iran maintains an embassy and a cultural centre in Zagreb.
Iranian vice-president Hassan Habibi visited Croatia in 1995 and Iranian president Mohammad Khatami visited Zagreb, Croatia in 2005. Croatian president Stipe Mesic had a three-day state visit to Iran in 2001. In 2008 Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad hailed the two countries' relations and that their shared cultures and histories, owing to the possible Iranian origin of the Croats, would strengthen those relations. During the same year, the Croatian national oil company INA expanded activities in the Ardabil Province. However, on March 22, 2012, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Josko Klisovic announced sanctions on all oil transactions from Iran following US pressure.
